The main motivation for the translation of this book was the need for an easy-to-use guide\u00a0to be available\u00a0in the Greek language so as to\u00a0assist health professionals in providing appropriate care and support to children and adolescents with terminal illnesses.<\/span><\/p>

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

In the fifteen chapters of the book, the author Justin Amery discusses the various medical\u00a0and nursing\u00a0issues that arise in providing palliative care to children, as well as practices involving\u00a0transmission of distressing information, supporting families and children in their emotional reactions, moral and spiritual issues, as well as\u00a0assisting\u00a0family members\u00a0during their bereavement.\u00a0Each chapter is “built” on the basic knowledge that health professionals already possess from their\u00a0training, adding the differences and peculiarities\u00a0inherent in\u00a0the care of children and families facing\u00a0life-limiting or terminal conditions.\u00a0Research\u00a0data “converse” with\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>the <\/span>author’s clinical experience in various cultural and socio-economic contexts, and are presented in the light of their usefulness and\u00a0applicability\u00a0in the reality of\u00a0caring for\u00a0this\u00a0special\u00a0population of children and adolescents. The book\u00a0also\u00a0includes the current edition (2020) of the\u00a0<\/span>Association for Paediatric Palliative Medicine\u00a0<\/span>Master Formulary.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

We hope that this handbook will be an easy-to-use source of knowledge and guidance for health professionals\u00a0in Greece,\u00a0<\/span>and will<\/span> assist them in providing\u00a0relief and support to children with terminal illnesses and their families.<\/span><\/p>

It was with great sadness that we were informed of the sudden loss of Dr Justin Amery on 24\/7\/2021. The Greek translation of his Handbook, which unfortunately\u00a0 he did not see published, is devoted to his memory – the memory of a pioneer in children’s palliative care, having offered inspiration and support to many others “anywhere in the world…”.\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
