The main motivation for the translation of this book was the need for an easy-to-use guide to be available in the Greek language so as to assist health professionals in providing appropriate care and support to children and adolescents with terminal illnesses.

In the fifteen chapters of the book, the author Justin Amery discusses the various medical and nursing issues that arise in providing palliative care to children, as well as practices involving transmission of distressing information, supporting families and children in their emotional reactions, moral and spiritual issues, as well as assisting family members during their bereavement. Each chapter is “built” on the basic knowledge that health professionals already possess from their training, adding the differences and peculiarities inherent in the care of children and families facing life-limiting or terminal conditions. Research data “converse” with  the author’s clinical experience in various cultural and socio-economic contexts, and are presented in the light of their usefulness and applicability in the reality of caring for this special population of children and adolescents. The book also includes the current edition (2020) of the Association for Paediatric Palliative Medicine Master Formulary. 

We hope that this handbook will be an easy-to-use source of knowledge and guidance for health professionals in Greece, and will assist them in providing relief and support to children with terminal illnesses and their families.
